Pasture Improvement

The implantation of prairie from dry region and/or watery area by means of selected seed mixtures for the perfect adaptation. We make compounds of grasses and legumes, determined by the following factors: type of earth, climate and use.

The correct choice of the mixture is fundamental to the success of the prairie.

The increase in trophy value acquired in our days is doubled.  The activity of hunted species assumes an increasing importance in the economy of many activities. Now it is evident we need help the species preservation and nature conservation movements. The growing professionalization of this sector permits hunting in new areas that present a prominent role to the hunting species field. There is a quality and quantity of the trophies obtained and/or a reduction of the inherent costs in the field.

The extensive hunting species produce more when the pasture is improved in nutrition resources. Knowledge of pasture importance in the lives of the hunting species has developed a range called Extensive (for dry prairies over long duration), with productive capability of 3 to 6 times better than natural pastures.

Extensive is a range of compound mixtures of legumes, annual and perennial, selected for their perfect adaptation to specific conditions of dirt and climate. These are well installed and maintain the original prairie’s productiveness. It continues to be of excellent quality and low cost, improving the profitability of the hunting species activity.

Impact of Extensive in the production of hunting species:

  • Increased production of grass for many years
  • Considerable improvement of economic or operation form
  • Permitted higher animal loads
  • Increased the percentage of females that are covered to two years old, an elevated percentage that can improve the bodily condition of the animal.
  • Increased the quantity and quality of the trophies obtained and reduced the costs to obtain the same results.

Impact of Extensive on the Environment:

  • Guaranteed elevated rate of nitrogen biological fixation
  • Improvement of soil fertility and organic material
  • Improvement of the infiltration and retention ability of water in the earth.
  • Reduced erosion of earth

The production is between autumn and spring, in time with the rains, however, it can be grazed throughout the year. During the wet period the animals use the green grass of high quality, and during the summer the leaves, stems, and seeds are a valuable food reserve of high nutritional value and highly appreciated by the animals. The ingredients of Extensive range are seeds of various legumes that are inoculated with Rhizobium, ensuring high rates of nitrogen fixation.

Planting

  • Soil preparation: must be made so that the surface layer has a minimum thickness of 10cm., is well broken and relatively flat.
  • Season: September to October, as soon as possible.
  • Density: 25 to 30 kg / ha.
  • Depth: the seed must be buried to a depth of 0.5 to 1.0 cm., it is essential to compact the soil after planting. You must use a spiked roller or alternatively, harrow spikes to incorporate the seed surface and leave the soil compact.

Reference Fertilization

  • background
  • Nitrogen: in late sowings only 20 to 40 units / ha N.
  • Phosphorus: 60 to 90 units / ha P2O5
  • Potash: 60 to 90 units / ha K2O

* The fertilizer should be applied taking into account the soil analysis.

Maintenance Fertilization

At the end of summer and preferably having rushed the dry grass should provide 20 to 30 units of phosphorus (P2O5) and potash if necessary. It is important to perform this maintenance fertilizer every year, to at least achieve a reasonable level of nutrients in the soil. It is recommended that you do soil tests every 3 years. We do not recommend the use of nitrogen fertilizer, since in the pasture at present legumes are able to fix 100 to 200 kg / ha / yr of atmospheric nitrogen.

Management and Use

In the first year the main goal of permanent grassland management is to ensure a high production of seeds (seed bank) of the species and varieties that have been planted to ensure long life and excellent productivity. For that, it is necessary to concentrate efforts on planting and management that favor abundant seed production.

Planting should be done on time (with the ground still quite hot) and ground properly prepared and fertilized. Cañones Hunting Services, Spanish President of FEDFA (European Federation of Deer Raisers)
